US Navy Murder of Crows Ladies Shirt
Named “crow” for the large, black eagle featured on many older naval uniforms, a Petty Officer’s rank insignia is one recognizable across all branches. Except for the Marines, who mysteriously figure that a Petty Officer Third Class is a full-bird Colonel. When a sailor makes the rank of Third Class, they’re indoctrinated by “tacking on the crow.” Really, it’s just getting hit in the arm. Really hard, over and over.
When someone messes up on a ship, a Petty Officer covers their collar insignia with their hand, exclaiming “They ain’t gettin’ these crows!” Though the dark navy blue insignia no longer exists except for the summer dress whites, the moniker persists, and with good reason: just as a sailor is called a “Squid,” a Petty Officer’s rank is forever called a “Crow.”
A group of crows is called a murder. So, what do you get when a bunch of Petty Officers meet up? A murder! Hopefully, not an actual one. Looking at you, Yokosuka.
You fought for it, you earned it, now celebrate your rank with the Murder of Crows shirt!
