The US flag in red and blue with silver accents and the great state of Massachusettsare also displayed. The nickname “Big Mamie” is also carved into the coin along with its hull number BB-59. With 9 battle stars from her actions in WW2 they are ornately displayed at the top of the coin. This South Dakota-Class battleship was involved in Operation Torch among many things in her WW2 career. She was was also designed shortly after the Washington treaty ushering in heavy 16 inch guns for most American battleships. Sun rays are seen behind the warship and a deep colorful blue sea completes the scene was designed shortly after the Washington treaty ushering in heavy 16 inch guns.
