Without question one of the most enjoyable of naval warfare games must be World Of Warships. There are not many military games I would stop and play generally speaking or ones that would captivate my sense with beautiful scenery, historical accuracy and the deadliness and precision that these warships portray in such a well constructed video game. World Of Warships is at the pinnacle of naval warfare video gaming and having played it regularly I can attest to this.

The US Navy has always built beautiful warships with its zenith being reached with the USS Iowa in World War 2. This ship was at the height of battleship construction during World War Two and arguably was said that it could confront and go head-to head with the Empire Of Japan’s crowning jewel, the Yamato.

In its diamond anniversary year of WW2 we honor the men and women of the United States Navy by not only describing the warships they served aboard but also taking things one step further by designing a series of US Navy challenge coins befitting these naval legends.

The United States Navy after Pearl Harbor was in shambles for a long period of time as the US rebuilt her fleet. During that time the aircraft carriers held the line against the Japanese Imperial might. One of the mot decorated and famous of all ships, the USS Enterprise was one of these incredible aircraft carriers having served in nearly battle and engagement of the Pacific War during World War 2.

America’s battleships were known for their massive 16 inch guns and the USS Alabama did not fall short of this. She served with distinction throughout World War 2 having served in the Pacific with escorting carrier task groups and bombarding Japanese positions throughout the Pacific naval campaigns.

Shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor America needed something positive, with the Japanese military expanding and occupying most of the Pacific island chains and threatening Australia as well. It was time to send send a signal to the Empire Of Japan that they were not impervious to attack and even their mainland could be reached. This is where the Doolittle Raid became so famous as their US B-25 Mitchells took off from the deck of the USS Hornet and hit the industrial areas of Japan. It was a small raid but an effective one telling Japan we could still bring the war to their shores.

Protecting the aircraft carriers was an incredibly important role many of our battleships undertook during World 2. The USS Massachusetts, a North Dakota class battleship, was one of the US Navy battleships assigned to this role.

Without question one of the most famous of all battleships to come out of the Second World War was the battleships USS Missouri. Her massive guns, her activities in the war and the completion of the war with Japan when the Japanese surrender occurred on her deck in Tokyo Harbor. The “Mighty Mo”!
