Navycrow.Com Goes To Fleet Week. Nothing like the site of tall masted ships sailing down the Willamette right in the middle of downtown Portland, Oregon. It is a site that happens only once a year and when it does it is something special. Portland, OR a growing Northwest city has happily hosted the United States Navy for decades. Each year several US Navy warships sail up the Oregon Coast, enter the mighty Columbia River at Astoria which flows to the Willamette and then into downtown Portland.
This year the USS Champion, USS Russel and the USS Howard. The USS Champion a minesweeper, the USS Russel and USS Howard both both Arleigh Burke guided missile destroyers were the mighty warships that came to Portland this year during Fleet Week and the Portland Rose Festival. Three beautiful USN warship docked right along the Portland waterfront.
What made this Rose Festival Fleet Special is that not only did the US Navy come to town but that they did so in the city of Navycrow.Com. This was not the usual day at the ships taking tours. This was about giving something back. This was about showing how proud we are of these men and women wearing the uniform of the United States Navy Men and women who took an oath to defend the Constitution and to protect the American way of life by preserving freedom across the world.

First stop the USS Champion. Handing out US Navy Popeye patches, Navy Chief PVC Patches and getting the chance to meet the Sailors, Chiefs and and officers of this honorable US Navy warship.
The Chief gets patches and more patches! It was an honor to have met this Chief who took the time out of his busy schedule to visit with us and share some of his great sea stories.
The USS Champion is a minesweeper of the United States Navy. They are the ships that go before the fleet and are of caught saying that “Where the Fleet Goes, They Have Been!”

It’s not every day you get the opportunity to meet the Captain of a US Navy destroyer warship. Today just happened to be one of those days and as the Captain was politely and professionally meeting with civilians wanting to take a tour of his ship the USS Howard, we got a quick opportunity to press into the hand of the Captain one of the Navycrow.Com US Navy Destroyer coins. It was an honor to have met with him.

The Captain pressed his coin into my hand and I was able to provide an exchange of our US Navy destroyer coin to him. It was an honor to meet him.
After meeting with the Captain we headed to where the Sailors aboard the USS Champion were seated and had a rare opportunity to meet their SAR Swimmer who confirmed that the coin we produced for this special group of US Navy Sailors was on the mark. The words to express the coin I can;t mention here but to say he was excited to receive his free SAR Swimmer coin from Navycrow.Com was an understatement.
