The opportunity to dive the ocean blue has been closely described as returning to the womb. Floating in space with buoyancy and no boundaries is what it feels like to scuba dive. Weightlessness and a real connection to our primordial past it is also described as. When we scuba dived the USS Kittiwake we learned this particular warship also utilized US Navy divers and provided the inspiration for the creation of our Navy Diver US Navy diver challenge coin.

When one of the artists of Navy Crow experienced this scuba dive it was an incredible opportunity to learn more about a piece of both US history but more specifically United States Navy history. Navy Crow’s artist had this to say about the dive:

“A beautiful wreck dive in Grand Cayman right off of 7-mile Beach in shallow waters is the USS Kittiwake.  The USS Kittiwake is a Chanticleer-class submarine rescue ship that served as an Auxiliary Submarine Rescue vessel (ASR-13) with the 6th Submarine Squadron.  She now sits at the bottom as an artificial reef and world renown destination for wreck divers.”

.USS Kittiwake featured in film Men of Honor with Robert Deniro and Cuba Gooding Jr about Carl Brashear the first black man to be a US Navy Diver-

Navy Crow and its art is influenced by our surroundings and our experiences and the USS Kittiwake was an inspiration for the creativity we extend to each of our Navy clients when it comes to creating custom challenge coins and custom apparel designs for them. The many ships like the USS Kittiwake are examples of the US Navy and its dominance as a sea power. Navy Crow for years has been developing US Navy challenge coin designs that span decades including the US Navy warships that sailed during the Second World War. This year, 2020, marks the Diamond Anniversary of World War 2 with its 75 years since war broke out on December 7th, 1941 when the United States and the Empire oF Japan locked horns.

As a dedication to the United States Navy, Navy Crow created a collection of masterful US Navy warship coins with 12 highly detailed and aggressively inspired military challenge coins that are worthy of any military coin collection. The ancient Trojans once said that a beautiful Greek face could launch a thousand ships. Well a scuba dive on the USS Kittiwake can launch a dozen US Navy challenge coins. Enjoy!
