Why did the US Navy FCPOA coin need to be made. Let’s face it first there were firsts! We have heard it from the lowest seaman class to the first class petty officer of the United States Navy. The backbone of the US navy has also been suggested to be the US Navy Chief but ask a 1st Class who handles the majority of the grunt work and you will get a very different answer. That is why the US Navy FCPOA coin had to be made.

FCPOA

First Class Petty Officer Associations or FCPOA as they are commonly referred to are the groups of US Navy Sailors that meet, often weekly to discuss a variety of topics, from leadership and CPO365 programs to their recent evaluations for future advancement to the tests and updates often handed down from the loftiest areas of the Navy like the SECNAVs office. The FCPOA is the training ground for future Navy Chiefs and place where ideas, training and learning can and often occurs. The FCPOA is the foundation for all things First Class Petty Officer.

We Meet On Wednesday

Most often but not always on a Wednesday for a FCPOA meeting but it does seem to be fairly common. Time to bring up new ideas, fundraising, and community held functions and time to spend with friends. The dues paying members often have their FCPOA shirt and maybe a FCPOA coin they were given when their paid their membership dues. The host of leadership, President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer meet and begin and votes are taken whether it’s for a FCPOA challenge coin, shirt or some other important activity.

1st Class Petty Officer

Known as an E-4, E-5 or E-6 and wearing on their uniform the crow (actually an American bald eagle) which has been forever a tradition and one that continues to this day. The crow is symbolic of the men and women who hold the 1st, 2nd and 3rd class ranks of Petty Officer. Their jobs also called rates are added to these rank designations for example a 1st class boatswain’s mate is a BM1 or a hospital Corpsman 1st class is a HM1. The rates come and go or are combined but the naming convention for rate and rank haven’t slipped at all over the years.
