The United States Navy’s Western Pacific (WestPac) region includes the waters around the western and central Pacific Ocean, including the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans. It is a geographical area of responsibility for the U.S. Navy, and is typically referred to as the 7th Fleet. We created the WESTPAC Navy Chief US Navy Challenge Coin for this reason.

The 7th Fleet is headquartered at Yokosuka, Japan, and is responsible for conducting naval operations in the region, including enforcing U.S. maritime security interests, conducting disaster relief and humanitarian assistance operations, and supporting regional stability.

The 7th Fleet operates a variety of ships, including aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers, and submarines, as well as aircraft and other supporting units. Its area of responsibility stretches from the International Date Line to the eastern coast of Africa, and from the Arctic to the Antarctic.

Westpac Deployment

it is not uncommon for ships and other units of the 7th Fleet to deploy for several months at a time to conduct operations and exercises in the region. Upon completion of a deployment, the units involved would typically return to their homeports or move on to other areas of responsibility.
