USS Nautilus Captain Nemo’s by nickname could easily have made the final determination of victory at the Battle of Midway came from a little submarine that changed history. For this reason the USS Nautilus Warships of World War 2 75th Anniversary Coin was created to honor the ship crew and provide a historical reference to a time that the US Navy fought across the wide example of the Pacific Ocean.
Referred to as USS Nautilus Captain Nemo’s found itself in the middle of the Japanese fleet assembled for attack on the Island Of midway during World War 2. She came under attack by the destroyer Arashi and caused that ships delay in returning to its fleet.

The sinking of the 4 Japanese carriers changed the outcome of the war in the Pacific and positioned the US Navy on offense for the first time since Pearl Harbor.
