Nothing could be more fitting for the most successful United States Navy submarine than “Lucky Boat”. With 23 confirmed sinkings to her credit she hunted across the Pacific in search of Japanese ships and she found them.

The United States Navy submarines were responsible for sinking over 600,000 tons of enemy warships and 5,000,000 tons of merchant shipping. The USS Silversides made a huge contribution towards this feat. That is why USS SIlversides was a killer submarine.

A lucky coin for a lucky submarine was the conclusion of a decision in 2020 to make a series of Warships Of World War 2 challenge coins that would honor the 75th Anniversary of the ending of World War 2. A collection of 22 US Navy warship coins were producing including this spirited little Gato-class submarine the USS Silversides.

This highly detailed 2 inch, 4mm challenge coin displays the long and sleek lines of this famous US Navy warship. She is displayed from the starboard side with her 5 inch deck gun and view of her torpedo tubes. 12 battle stars are seen at the top, A US Flag waves proudly, her name and hull number SS-236 are also displayed. Her nickname “Lucky Boat” is also present.

On the reverse side of this coin are the words Warships Of World War 2 and 75th anniversary marking the Diamond Anniversary of the ending of WW2. A small US navy warship sails in the background.
